Learning The Basics
"Billy!" "What!" "Billy!" "What!" "Billy!"
I heard Georgie stomping down the stairs. "Didn't you hear me shouting on you?" "Yes" "Well" "Well what?" "Why didn't you come when I called?" "Come where?" "Upstairs" "You didn't ask me to come upstairs" "Why do you think I was shouting on you?" "I thought you were shouting because I know you like it"
As with people, unless you let your dog know what it is you want of them, then it must know by clear instructions. There is no point in calling their name unless followed by what you want them to do, such as, Come, No, Leave, or whatever you want of them. I have seen dog owners as they shout their dogs name repeatedly, and the dog looks up, and then continues with whatever it is doing. However, if they had trained their dog properly in the first place they would not have this problem.
Even though Party tricks for dogs is intended to teach your dog tricks, it is important that they learn the basics, and teaching your pet to return immediately after it has been called is an essential part of its development, and since it is a very important step in teaching tricks, this and many other basics are included, such as teaching it to fetch and hold items of all shapes and sizes and return them to your hand when it is instructed, and as you would expect from a good training manual everything from house training to agility is listed.
